BioSorter (Large Particle Flow Cytometer) Union Biometrica

Location: MFPL Main Building (Dr. Bohr-Gasse 9) - Level 2, Room 2.528

The BioSorter® is designed for flow-cytometric analysis and sorting of objects ranging in size from 1 – 1500 µm.

Unlike traditional cytometers, it allows the investigation of viable multicellular organisms, cell clusters, bead-based libraries and other samples that are too large and fragile for standard flow-cytometry.

Parameters that can be analyzed are the relative axial length (TOF, Time of flight), which allows to determine the size of cells/objects, the optical density (EXT, Extinction) and fluorescent emission. For more application areas, see image 1 below.

e.g. Zebrafish embryos can be characterized by profiling the optical density (EXT) and fluorescence pattern along the axial length (TOF). See image 2 below for more details.

System configuration:

3 Lasers, 3 Fluorescence detectors (PMTs)

Large Particle (LP) Sampler: Sample-Input from multi-well plates, petri dishes, 50 ml or 750 ml stirred sample cups

Sorted samples: can be dispensed as single objects or bulk sorts into 24-, 48-, 96-, and 384-multiwell plates and 15 or 50ml  tubes.

Flow cells: FOCA250 (Diameter: 250 µm), FOCA1000 (Diameter: 1000 µm)
