Renée Schroeder wins science book of the year
18.01.12Renée Schroeder's popular science book 'Die Henne und das Ei: Auf der Suche nach dem Ursprung des Lebens' has been chosen by the public as the best science book of the year.
The book, whose title translates as 'The chicken and the egg: the search for the origin of life', explores the role of RNA in answering the central questions about how life on earth
came into being. As well as making the complex issues around RNA and the 'RNA world theory' easily understandable for lay readers, it discusses related questions of ethics and religion and offers readers food for thought.
The award, which was founded in 2007, is given by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research. The shortlist was drawn up by a jury of experts, but the final choice was made by a public vote.
