The MolBio Orchestra
The MolBio Orchestra was formed in 2006 by a group of molecular biology and biology students. Starting with only seven musicians, this ambitious project has developed into an orchestra of twenty five current members, including students, postdocs and group leaders from in and around the Vienna Biocenter.
The members are scientists with a passion for playing classical, film and pop music. Twice a year they perform within the VBC Concert series, each concert featuring the MolBio Orchestra and other talented musicians from the Vienna Biocenter. Their last performance included such pieces as the Mozart clarinet concerto (A minor), movements from the opera “Carmen”, Shostakovich’s famous Waltz no. 2, and music from the “Phantom of the Opera” and “Indiana Jones”.
Currently, they are seeking new members who share their enthusiasm and love for music. In particular, they are hunting for string and brass players, but anyone playing a classical instrument is very welcome.
