Two PostDoc positions in mammalian cell competition - University of Bristol, UK
Two Wellcome Trust funded postdoc positions in mammalian cell competition are available to join the group of Eugenia Piddini at the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, University of Bristol, UK (http://research-information.bristol.ac.uk/en/persons/eugenia-piddini(d9edf159-92ca-4b42-8bd6-6dbe1de23195).html).
The Piddini group studies the mechanisms and function of cell competition and investigates how cell competition can be harnessed to identify novel therapeutic opportunities in cancer and in regenerative medicine. Using epithelial-derived cell lines and mouse primary airway epithelial cells, our group has recently shown that p53 activation induces crowding-hypersensitivity and leads to the elimination of cells by neighbouring cells with low p53 levels. We are now seeking to appoint two outstanding post-docs to expand this work in two directions:
1) Investigate the mechanisms of mechanical cell competition. For this project we are seeking
applicants with broad expertise in mammalian cell biology, molecular biology and signal transduction.
Prior expertise in the field of mechano-sensing, mechano-transduction and cytoskeletal organisation and remodelling would be a definite plus.
2) Investigate how to exploit cell competition to improve engraftment and repopulation of the airways for regenerative medicine approaches. This project will include both in vitro and in vivo work, using mouse models. The in vivo work will be done in collaboration with the group of Emma Rawlins at the University of Cambridge. For this project we are seeking applicants with expertise in mouse models (including preferably procedures in vivo) and cultures of primary cells. Applicants should be highly motivated and have a substantial track record of productivity and international experience. They should have a PhD in a relevant subject area, or be close to completion of their degree.
