The MolBio Orchestra

The MolBio Orchestra was formed in 2006 by a group of molecular biology and biology students. Starting with only seven musicians, this ambitious project has developed into an orchestra of currently twenty five members, comprising students, Postdocs and group leaders from and around the VBC.

We are scientists with a passion for playing classical, film and pop music. Twice a year we perform within the VBC Concert series, each concert featuring the MolBio Orchestra and other talented musicians from the campus. Our last performance included pieces like the Mozart clarinet concerto (A minor), movements from the opera “Carmen”, Shostakovich’s famous Waltz no. 2, and music from the “Phantom of the Opera” and “Indiana Jones”.

Currently, we are looking for new members who share our enthusiasm and love for music. In particular, we are hunting for string and brass players, but anyone playing a classical instrument is very welcome. Our rehearsals take place every Tuesday, 7 p.m. in the IMP lecture hall, starting in September.

In the coming season we are going to perform the following pieces:
Beethoven – Symphony No. 6, 1st movements
Mozart – Piano Concerto No. 20
Gershwin – Summertime
Sibelius – Finlandia
Some film music
