
PhD Opportunities at the MFPL - International PhD Programs
The Max F. Perutz Laboratories provide interdisciplinary PhD training and high-quality research for outstanding university graduates. The MFPL are situated at the Vienna Biocenter Campus, a major science hotspot in Europe. Students and scientists benefit from the excellent scientific networks between the research institutes and companies on the campus. Numerous social activities, PhD students from more than 30 nations and the cultural life of Austria`s capital city create a vibrant scientific atmosphere.
To become a PhD at the Max F. Perutz Laboratories, you have to apply through one of the following programs:
Max F. Perutz International PhD Program
Our mission is to educate talented PhD students to become excellent researchers with a competitive professional profile, by fostering independence, inquisitive thinking and scientific rigor. PhD students are recruited via a structured selection and interview process usually held twice a year. They have a primary affiliation with one of the participating research groups, and
are enrolled as graduate students at the University of Vienna or the Medical University of Vienna. All MFPL PhD students are employed with a full-time contract and a competitive salary conforming to the guidelines of the Austrian Research Funds (FWF).

International Excellence Doctoral Programs
The MFPL are proud to host three Doctoral Programs reviewed and funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). Each of these programs involves several of our research groups and offers a specific curriculum fitting its scientific focus. Selections for the Doctoral Programs are usually co-organized with the Max F. Perutz PhD Program.

MFPL also participates in the campus-wide VBC PhD Programme together with our close neighbors, the Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA) and the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI).
